According to Wikipedia, on November 19, 1986—42 days before the end of the year—nine New York City police officers, with nearly 20 additional officers positioned outside the building, raided the Bronx apartment of Davis’s sister.
During the ensuing shootout, Davis escaped after a shotgun blast grazed his scalp. All six officers who were shot survived. Police initially stated that the raid was an attempt to question Davis, who was wanted as a multiple-murder suspect. They later obtained an arrest warrant for him and changed their explanation, saying the raid had been an attempt to arrest him.
The raid occurred on the 17th day of a massive manhunt. Davis was eventually traced to a Bronx building, where he had been hiding inside an apartment belonging to an unknown family. After police contacted him by telephone, he claimed to be holding the occupants hostage.
Following negotiations that lasted through the night, Davis became convinced—partly because of the media presence—that police would not shoot him if he surrendered. He ultimately gave himself up peacefully.
Also, on February 20, 2008, Larry Davis was killed in prison by 42-year-old Luis Rosado.
What’s even more striking is that Davis died during his 42nd year of life.
And according to The New York Times, Davis surrendered on December 6, 1986—a date that also carries a connection to the number 42 through numerology.
